ICREA Research Professor and leader of the ICN2 Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group in Barcelona, Spain, Arben Merkoçi obtained his PhD at the University of Tirana in ion selective electrodes. He has conducted research at institutions across Europe and the USA. His work focuses on integrating biological molecules with micro- and nanostructures to develop novel (bio)sensors.
Prof. Merkoçi is a member of The European Academy of Sciences (EURASC), the Academy of Sciences of Albania and director of NANOBALKAN. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Biosensors and Bioelectronics and is on the editorial boards of other journals in his field.
With more than 350 publications (H-index: 97 Google Scholar), he has supervised 40 PhD theses and contributed to nanoscience education. He co-founded GraphenicaLab and PaperDrop, collaborates globally, and serves on expert panels for EU and international agencies. He has delivered over 220 invited talks and led major research initiatives in nanobiosensors.
